cameraman ganga to rambabu.......A POSITIVE THOUGHT LINE

Tell me one movie in recent past where you witnessed a powerful climax without a drop of blood. YES WITHOUT A DROP OF BLOOD. The Pawan-Puri combo delivers a power packed climax that shakes you and wakes you up. The last 25 min of the movie involves you into the film in such a way that you forget all the trauma of the rest of the movie. Never ever a films climax touched the hearts of millions in this way. The films ultimate strength lies in those moments where the protagonist makes you realize how silly the system we are living in functions. 

Its pawan kalyans movie.The protagonist underplays his role to perfection. His intensity when he utters his powerful dialogues and his silence in the other moments establishes  a rare uniqueness. This uniqueness brings out the so called power and charm for which pawan kalyan has been famous. Right throughout the movie he remains with a common expression. He displays a unique seriousness and emotions when in conversation with the antagonist. And the way he addresses the state in the finality is simple yet very powerful. Puri displays how simple can be effective and powerful. And for the climax rush to the theatre to feel the power of the star who with his simple eye movement mesmerizes the  public.  Its a honour to be a contemporary of a star with some social sense. 

Making a mockery of news and politics the director comes out with winning moments in the 130 min long movie. Puri jagannath should be commended for taking a direct dig at Raj Thackeray and his politics of division. The way he asks " is telugu talli displaying the same animosity towards tamil talli" is commendable. The entire episode of "telugu talli" "tamil talli" "marati talli" is really thought provoking. The way he makes us realize the way news is fabricated is commendable.

Prakash raj delivers another commendable performance. Particularly the way he whips the emotions by evoking the telugu sentiment and the scene that follows are one of the best scenes in the movie. The way he displays the evil sense with eyes is awesome.

The regular fan elements are there. Two heroines make the things run. The ordinary-extraordinary     comparison is hilarious and intelligent insertion. Regular comedy line, regular fights and regulars are throughout out the movie. The music is a feast for fans. The last song seems to be a tribute to "nenu saitam" and well picturised. 

AND DEAR PURI -PAWAN , 

In a madness to appease fans you lost the deal. Such a story -such dialogues-such satire should have been a masterpiece if not you have lost to mad comedy, mad love scenes and  mass appeals. Everything seemed to perfect in this story. But imperfections that are inserted to make fans happy resulted in the dilution of the perfection. If your objective is to wake youth from deep slumber, do it sincerely. Dialogues don't make a movie. A social conscious star like pawan alone cannot sustain the credibility. A movie shines when every one in the movie has a role that elevates the theme, not the star. As i said it is the moment s that elevated the movie. Dear puri, how many days you will depend on moments? Yet again a movie last to star power.

For most of the time the protagonist(pawan) remains silent in the movie. Its during his powerful dialogues and   dynamic movements the movie comes to life. During the last twenty five min  the protagonist uses silence and dialogues that rattle the audience and pull them into the movement he heads. You will feel difficult to leave the proceedings. 

SADLY THE DIRECTOR SEEMED TO BE IN TOUCH WITH HIS CRAFT DURING THE LAST TWENTY FIVE MIN.

MY SIMPLE VERDICT: WATCH OH MY GOD FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. GO FOR IT NOW 

Few cinema's dare to make a point straight to the heart. Oh my god is a rare movie that comes out with a message that requires guts. On behalf of my blog i congratulate and appreciate this director for his effort. I dont want to analyze or write any comments on this movie. 

Cinema with RK salutes this director for making a point that can change the very foundations of a god fearing society. You may ask me who cares? I simply conclude: why should i bother?

The director made his point. Its crystal clear. For this he has not resorted himself to cheap gimmicks or tricks. He has not made mockery of religion or he has not made him a victim of graphics and technology. His lead actor comes out with an awesome portrayal. 

What amazed me is the directors God. Simple and friendly. He seldom performs miracles except in the penultimate scenes.He calls his devotee his friend. He declares he is nature himself. 

In one of the scenes god declares 

"i always give you means; its up to you to use them for good or bad"

films you should not miss

One of my students recently visited my house when i am away. Knowing my absence he asked my wife: " ye cinemaki vellaru( which movie he is watching today). My wife felt very sad and she even imagined that entire circle of mine is imagining me as a cinema maniac or i am suffering from a habituation of cinema. As such she expressed her concern to me in a very serious tone the same night. 

This definitely influenced me and i thought there's no point in writing reviews and opinions that finally make you look like a person suffering from obsession towards cinema. At a point it appeared to me my inclination towards cinema made people make fun of me behind me. for a while I DISTANCED MYSELF FROM WRITING OPINIONS AND REVIEWS. The objective behind my writing is to keep a record of good movies. 

For me is cinema is a passion. It's a great pleasure to watch characters move before you with different motivations and intentions. Its an enthralling experience to watch some one do the impossible. Its awesome experience to see the protagonist perform uphill tasks with ease. 

For me cinema is a tool that can have a telling impact on society. I can cite hundreds of examples that changed the world for ever. For example nuvve kavali changed the very premise of relations between girls and boys in Andhra Pradesh. I saw a lot of parents introspecting themselves after bommarillu.  My mother says Sankarbharanm re infused life of classical music in Andhra pradesh.

No. cinema will never change a society.  Yet it can influence culture. It can bring rapid changes in the attitude as well as personality in a youngster. Most of the freedom movements across the  world used art to spread the fervour. 

What ever I just want to keep a record of the good movies i watched in recent times.

A) The gangs of Wasseypur( I and II): In simple words if this is our official entry to oscar we will definitely win it.

B) Barfi: sweet and a ver postive movie. What if certain scenes are plagiarized  its a treat to watch. Ranbir kapoors performance is awesome.

C) Avunu: A very good thriller and the way ravi babu used  automated lights to scare is remarkable. 

JULAYI

SCENE 1:

A father criticizes wayward living style of his son and makes fun of his theories of money making. Irritated the son declares given few thousands  he will make them lakhs in two hours.Infuriated, the fathers throws money on him and asks him to do the same. The son steps out and his mind is clear. He wants to invest the money i n cricket betting  to multiply the money his father had given him. 

SCENE 2:

A heavy rain makes him(the son) to wait at a place where a stranger is waiting for his pick up. The stranger is a thief and on his way to loot a bank  and waiting for his accomplices to pick him up. A vehicle approaches to pick up the the stranger. The son who is unaware of the robbery plan requests the stranger to drop him at the betting club.

SCENE  3:

A witty conversation takes place between both the lead characters...the son and the stranger. The stranger comes to know the mind of the son. How ever the son discovers the plan of the stranger after he gets down. In order to escape a possible arrest after a raid of the police on the betting  club the son offers the police a chance to catch the bigger culprits so that he can be free. 

SCENE 4:

The police catch  the stranger, (who looted the bank in the style of THE JOKER of The Dark Knight). In the process the stranger's brother gets killed. The stranger gets to know the reality behind the sudden police attack on them. He vows to kill the son. The police arrange an alternative hideout for him. 

Director Trivikram presents the above four scenes laced with witty humour and good music in a grand style in the first twenty odd minutes of the movie JULAYI.. Of course he is  "heavily"  inspired from English movies from  which he constructed certain sequences in this movie. You are pushed into a  belief that you are going to be a part of a nail biting thriller. You hope for a powerful conflict between the two ..the son and the thief. For the first time i thought some thing new is being offered on the screen after a long while.

To his credit Trivikram srinivas has written great lines(which he always does)   and shot certain scenes very brilliantly...in particular the  thread of father and sons duel on easy money. In fact the director cleverly links the argument between father and son in the opening of the movie where son questions and father remains silent. And   the father answers them in the second half where the protagonist discovers the ills of easy money. Really heart touching. And the subtle humour is always there in Trivikram movies.This one is no different. A healthy comic subplots are interwoven through out the movie. All the technical departments have done well. In fact there's no complaint here regarding the technical phase.

So you may ask me me; a good story line... great dialogues..great music... IS THERE ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN? 

Definitely a lot. 

Without an iota of doubt i conclude Trivikram has lost to the star power again.  He spoiled the entire story and a great deal of technical work including his in his raw madness to elevate the star. He is no Rajamouli who can make an  illogical fare with awesome inputs of heroism to elevate the hero. 

For example the hero is spoil  brat only for the first twenty minutes. After that he is a part of the police investigation team. If the idea is to show a way ward hero transforming him into a responsible guy, the hero is very much a responsible guy within the first 30 min. Can you call a guy a spoil brat who is assisting police to nab a great criminal?

Further the basic premise of the story..easy money is not at all perfectly dealt. The argument between the father and son definitely offers  a wide platform of thoughts to be discussed as an entire society today looks up to easy ways without recognizing the evil behind. Very sadly the point is pushed back and its really unconvincing when the father preaches the son about ills of easy money in the penultimate scenes. The son never falls for the loot amount at any stage even though he knows the money is hidden in a garbage.How come for a character who is obsessed with a desire of easy money to leave some thousands of crores? Never the hero is shown in that mood. 

The heroine is needed for the hero. So she is shown in the most unconvincing manner. The entire romance seems forced and its a part of the the story to pop up some good laughs.Its great  idea to make us and heroine to believe a shower  caused by a water tank  as rain. What happened to you Trivikram?

The hero and the villain can read each other mind ( a lift from the Sherlock Holmes: game of shadows ). Even Sherlock Holmes has to attend the classes of professor Moriarty to understand his methods. Then the  protagonist and antagonist in this movie  are definitely a class apart from Sherlock  Holmes and  Moriarty.

In finality you make a khichidi of some English movies......write some illustrious.lines .....add comic subplots......pump in a energetic beat and write everything to elevate the hero and then name it in some attractive manner. This is how the Telugu cinema is running these days.. 

People may enjoy the stuff. But to make such stuff we don't need a Trivikram. And as far as his lines are concerned  let me assure all the readers direction and writing are two different departments. Both should be neatly combined to make a good or great film.

The movie would have been a great film if the son ventured out to prove his father wrong,,,,got involved in a serious heist,,,,ran through a series of problems........got help from some ......and finally returns home where his father is ready with the answers for his questions.

Trivikram.....you again lost to a hero.

ఊ కొడతారా ఉలిక్కి పడతారా...UNCOVERING THE 26TH PRACTICE

The last edition of Harry Potter starts with the sentence" these are dark times......."


I never believed any black magic formats. How ever my reading habits always provided a lot of info. Particularly Yendamuri's novels like Tulasi dalam, Tulasi, Asthavakra etc.,

It is believed that there are 25 occult practices. It is also believed there are no more real sorcerers who can use these on their enemies. Ranging from chetabadi to banamati , patalla kuuti to kutti saitan the occult practices are now a part of  assumptions and stories. The reality remains uncovered so far. It is widely believed that  Kashmora is the sixteenth of the practices and mastery over this is no more. The last one ksith is very powerful and its origins are not exactly known. All the above practices are only a part of myth and fantasy. Moreover they are used profitably by cheaters to exploit the superstitious society.

All these books on occult amused and thrilled me in my degree days. But i never believed such things exist. 

How ever now i believe the sorcery and its harmful effects. Yesterday i found out a new form of occult which damages our sanity with in a time of 2hours 20 min .It simply sucks you into a new world where you will forget reason and region. It simply makes you laugh on your helplessness. It leads you to new world where you meet souls possessing other bodies at free will. You cry over the pain that emanates from the suffering of the people trying to make believe you that this kind of wold exists.You feel the hundreds years of life consumed in a period of 120 minutes. Of course you will get a small gap of ten min in middle to escape and become normal.  But If you cannot dare at that point to escape you are pulled back into the chaos. You will be forced to repent over your past
. You will beg god ..."given a chance you will not repeat any of the evil thing you have done". Souls fly besides you. A time will come when you feel your body is possessed. You are thrown out . You realize your punishment is over. You will run madly to escape the souls and witches. 

The effects slowly subside after the said time duration. You will realize  and cry over the sins you have committed. You now know how fortunate you are to survive the ordeal. Your life change forever. 

So the new form of occult requires a lot of patience  to learn and impart. Its rare and will be available in specified places for only a few days. If you want to take revenge on your dearest enemy, if you want to mend the ways of your children or any cause rush to the theatre where ఊ కొడతారా ఉలిక్కి పడతారా is played. An awesome sorcery. Better than Kashmora's and any other black magic.    Providing you the vital images that will really terrorize you

EEGA........A PROUD MOMENT FOR TELUGU CINEMA

These are the dark hours of Andhra Pradesh. Development is all time low. Leaders are much concerned with their bank balances and property accumulation. Youngsters adapted to a living style that suits malls and parties.Parents are busy accumulating funds to see to that their children sail in life without any difficulty. Morality hit an all time low. Temples busy with materialistic devotion.Hard work and determination are slowly becoming  reference words. In these dark times where nothing seemed positive and encouraging,  "EEGA"  proved what  excellence is all about.In these turbulent times "EEGA" showed what can be done with a positive set of mind. In these spend thrift times "EEGA" showed what economics  is all about. In  these dark times "EEGA" showcased how to fight against tough times and emerge victorious. "EEGA" brought back the spirit which gives us the thrust to do that thing which we stopped fearing failure.

This is one of the finest hours of Telugu cinema.Wake up. Its time to celebrate. Finally it took a fly to  crown Telugu Cinema in the realms of Indian Movie land. Before you read any of the following paragraphs, go for this magnum opus , watch it on the big screen and celebrate the vision of a director who worked tirelessly for    the past two years to entertain us. Every frame of EEGA  showcases the brilliance of Rajamouli. This is his hour. In fact this entire journey of EEGA opened new vistas in film marketing. 

Its quite unnecessary to discuss story and music of EEGA here as the innovative marketing strategy of the director revealed everything at the initiation of project itself. The entire team designed the movie in a never seen before way. The photography is awesome. In fact it is the main strength of the movie. All the ways thumbs up for the graphics team as well as the designer of the fly.The dialogues are minimum and well written .The editing of the movie helps the pace of the movie.

Being a visual drama for most of the time the music department has a lot of responsibility and Keeravani comes out with flying colours. The reincarnation loop made the crowds go  berserk in the theatres.The songs are situational and never interrupt the story. The BGM is a treat and the best in the recent movies.

All said and done its the vision of the director that makes this film a lot different from its predecessors. In fact the much hyped Robo fails to match up with technical standards of his film. In every perspective this movie is  the  first of its kind in India. The premise itself is addicting. The director never resorts to a cinematic liberty though he has a lot of scope. He framed the story within the limitations of a fly  and he worked out wonder with his Graphics team. 

He detailed the movie in a impeccable manner. The sequences which lead the fly to discover its previous birth are very effective and intelligent. The way the fly designs its schemes to torment the villain tells a lot about the hard work done behind the scenes. With in no time you root for the fly to emerge victorious in the tough battle it undertakes to avenge its murder in previous birth. The training sequences are worth a watch for every kid in this country. The heroine being a micro artist and one who understands the sign language signifies the future course between her and the fly. 

I never loved any of Rajamouli's films. Its certain scenes in  the films.....like the interval sequence in Simhadri, the  brutal atack on the kid and aftermath in Chatrapathi, The entire flashback episode in Vikramakudu, the duel between Yama and the thief in Yamadonga .....that defined his mastery over the medium. Perhaps the commercial overtones of telugu cinema made him compromise at every level. Its maryadaramana that presented us a different Rajamouli. He made wonders in that movie. But with EEGA he showed his craft. His mastery over the medium, his hard work in detailing, his respect for the technicians   and his down to earth attitude are unique in a ego driven field. All credit to the man who made my dream of  a movie which stands  on  par with Hollywood  come true.

Its of first of its kind movie in India.  Completely original and highly creative this fly makes inroads into the areas where Telugu's films never traversed. Its brings the glory to the field which never was able to show case the talents it groomed. Its a tribute to all those greats whose talent never crossed the state. For this raja mouli should be congratulated with pure happiness.

Please don't search for mistakes. There will be such in every frame. But its time to savour the dish rather than complaining about the colour of the plate.

Its a sin to watch this movie on TV. Some one gave you a chance in these Vulgar times to celebrate a pleasant two hour 30 minutes with your family. Some one offered a joy of watching an Indian designed animation of highest quality to your kids. Some one has made the telugu people feel great about their own race. Go. celebrate and smile to your heart full at the end of movie as the thief flies to dubai.

In the movie the villain opens the window and the air gushes out the tormenting fly on to the roads. The fly watches helplessly the speeding car on the way to exploit his lady love in his previous birth. All of a sudden a convoy of a leader shows up.A police inspector asks the villain to slow his car till the convoy passes. The fly watches this, turns back, finds the approaching vehicles and  flies in a planned manner to reach the top of the first vehicle of the convoy and then the chase begins. Its a treat  to watch the eega jump from the vehicle to the villains car.After a long time i watched a movie with awe and admiration alike. 

once again thank you...RAJAMOULI.

HOPING A DREAM COME TRUE

The first English movie i saw was Laughing 20's (a laurel and hardy film) at the age of six. Its my father who took me to the movie. As i grew up i noticed a fascination among our citizens for the Hollywood biggies. I can never forget the campaign that was carried for the promotion of JUNGLE BOOK. My father saw my eagerness and took me to the very first show of the movie. My English teacher Varghese sir introduced us to a lot of great movies. He used to give us synopsis first and then lead us to the movie. Ten Commandments, The Guns of Navarone, Benhur, Where Eagles Dare........were    a world we watched with awe.My  musings here are only with the genre that attracts all the age groups. I am not discussing about the movies which cater to only certain sections. We are here discussing a movie that starts as an idea, later expands into a creation and then makes our world different for a two hour period. Those two hours are the hours where we leave our daily life behind and get involved with a fantasy which we believe to be true. Remember the first time when you saw a gigantic Dinosaur  eating the leaves on the top of a 30 metre tree in JURASSIC PARK.

Its in Intermediate i realized that movies we were watching at Satyagowri and Anand theatres, Kakinada(very famous for showing English movies) were actually made in 50's and 60's.  Most of the new movies released in Holly wood were released a year later in our town. Its only through the video cassettes we got a chance to see new English movies. During my intermediate days I and srikanth watched "Honey, I shrunk the kids" On that  day i asked srikanth" why we are not making these kind of movies? An intelligent srikanth told me that the movies they make  require lot of money and technology. And since we are not having that sorts of technical enterprise we were not able to make the "AWE" films. 

What amazed me over years was their attention towards detail and the way they presented it in a short duration(1hr 30 min nearly). Watch  E.T. or Jurassic Park. You will understand how money,craft and technology make a wonderful combination. 

The greatness of these movies was they generated curiosity among all age groups alike. The movies occupied a special place in the hearts of a seven year old to a seventy year old. The movie TINTIN as well as the recent  MADAGASCAR 3 and the very new AMAZING SPIDERMAN proved that they are still the masters of such kind of cinema. 

Indian film makers have to accept the fact that they have made only a few films  that found acceptance among all age groups.Its "Chinnari Chetana" which  combined the technology and expertise to bring all the age groups to the theatre. We have a Mr India  and i don't remember at this stage .any other film ruling hearts of  all the age groups . Its really a pity that the country which makes large number of movies and renowned for exceptional cinematic expertise could not boast of a movie that entertains a child as well as a adult in the same proportions. CAN WE AT ANY POINT OF A TIME MAKE A MOVIE OF SUCH DIMENSIONS?

At this point EEGA seems to be an answer to this question. Releasing today EEGA seems to answer my prayer of an Indian movie which entertains in the lines of an E.T or a Spider-man. The trailers are definitely  brilliant and the music seems to aid the movie in reaching the millions around the world. It has a fantastic premise. A house fly on a revenge spree against a human who killed him in the previous birth is definitely new theme on the Indian cinema platform. In the trailers the special effects are brilliant. Hope the same continues in the movie too.

I never liked  any movie of the director  S.S,Rajamouli until Maryada Ramana happened. The previous movies of Rajamouli left logic in bay and traveled with entertainment quotient rather than make believe. Neither the protagonist in Sye nor the  protagonist in Magadheera made me feel and root for him. But his cinematic expertise is never in doubt. Let it be the interval sequence in Simhadri....or .....the making of an ordinary man into chatrapathi.....or the flashback episode of Vikramarkudu....or the duel with yama in yamloka in yamadonga....or the visual treat of magadheera....or .....making an unknown rugby a common sport in sye....Raja mouli showed his expertise in an excellent way. In all the above scenes the directors magical touch elevated an ordinary movie to an extraordinary level. However except these bits the directors complete potential is never on display. Perhaps the commercial compulsions made him to make the movies in such fashion.

Then MaryadaRamana happened. I remember the shot in which Sunil comes out from the deep of a bridge    on a cycle being chased by the villain . Its really awesome. I watched with admiration when sunil  held on  the pole on the top of a building trying to escape with an excellent BGM.  Except for the formulaic ending the movie is a treat from the word go. Its Rajamoulis hour. Every thing in Maryada Ramana is a celebration. The director took you on the ride, made you root for the protagonist and asked you the questions what will you do in such situations. 

And now this man comes with a two year long hard work. With a child like enthusiasm he tried to present the updates every month. For the last few weeks EEGA rewrote the advertising rules of telugu cinema. It now captures the imagination of an entire nation. An entire nation today by this time watch eega"s first show.For the first time in this writers 39 years a man stands with an universal theme made with tremendous hard work and expertise. For the first time India stands with a story that matches the supers, bats , spiders and reptiles of the western world. For the first time a movie comes with the so called well made special effects in the style we expect. For the first time in Indian History a Telugu movie comes with such hype and large scale.  

I wish Raja Mouli makes our two hours of time most precious and worth remembering a life time. Hope we will celebrate the spirit of a fly in all its glory. 

JALSA .....A STORY RE MODIFIED

Way back in 2009 i was very much occupied with the recognition process of my school. Lots of tensions and i started to become obese with mounting tensions as well as irregular eating habits. In those days a lot was discussed about Trivikram Srinivas's Jalsa(released on 2nd April 2008). Most of the disagreement with the movie was centred around  Protagonists sudden revelation that he is a Naxalite. Most of the critics blamed the twist as inappropriate as well as senseless.  Some called it absurdity to the extreme. 

Coming to the point i showcased my obesity as a result of tensions as well as restlessness.My student laughed and remarked " the reason" is as simple as Pwan kalyan being Naxalite in the film Jalsa. There was a lot of laughter and afterwards a lot was discussed about the movie. Then at the fag end of the discussion we came up with a story that supports the title as well as the protagonists back drop. Eventually we have forgotten the discussion. I try to bring what ever modification we thought of the story on that day.

Enjoy or curse our creativity levels.

The movie opens in the same manner as the director opens up. The threads with the heroine as well as the villain also remain the same. The villains entry scene where he comes out of jail should be shown as a cross over of protagonists vehicle.  

Most of the times the hero wanders round pubs and costly bars. His behaviour puzzles his friends a lot. He should be shown as craving for the company of rich and spoilt boys. Most of the time he explores ways to enjoy his life. The hero's vehicle most of the times should seem to be coming from an unknown direction every time. Every time the villain comes out of jail the hero's vehicle should be crossing his. 

 His spat with the goon at a pub  leads to the death of the goon who in turn is the son of villain.. Infuriated the villain hounds the protagonist's  friends who were recognised by the goons. The friends bear every pain and secure the identity of their friend.  Even then the hero remains happy and joyful. This attitude infuriates friends however they remain with him. 

The protagonist's meet with heroine's father and  attack on his friends happen on alternate planes. The hero rushes to the hospital and with different scenes ranging from his brothers death to entire family flashing he storms ti the area where the goons are partying. He beats them black and blue and for the first time the friends witness a blood thirsty protagonist. The hero hurls stick towards the goons and warns them with a fire which ends with words......" if you want to know more check about SAHU...THE MOST WANTED MAOIST.

Shocked to find the dreaded naxalite among them the friends slowly try to part ways with him. Meanwhile the heroine attacks the hero for hiding facts from him. The hero tries to bluff but friends force him to reveal his intentions.The heroine walks away.

Hero reveals his story to his friends. The same flashback till the naxalite element steps in. There the voice over reveals he and hero worked together. The narrator and hero identify the villain as the main spearhead of  troubles in he villages. They make his life miserable. With activities coming to a halt and followers fearing the naxalites the villain in a clever ploy reopens a case on him and shifts to the prison where he cannot be touched. He opens up new vistas and expands his empire. Despite several attempts the naxalites fail to break his new security. From jail he controls his entire operations. The top brass feels humiliated and frustrated over these developments. The protagonist blames the way they are conducting operations. He convinces if the villain gets free in this manner it will remain a black mark on them. The top brass then authorise the protagonist and the narrator to devise a plan  to kill the villain. 

As per the plan the hero and his group gets into an encounter with the cops. His duels with heroine's father follows. Pardoned he arrives in the city where the villain is staying in Jail. He joins the college and acquires a "Jalsa" image. Intentionally  he kills the villains son. He wants the villain to be out of jail. Regularly he keeps a vigil on jail. He comes across the villain on his routes. In he jail he irks the villain to come out to kill him. As per his philosophy he frightens the villain who eventually succumbs  to death

Story in this way should have added certain amounts of authenticity to the otherwise breezy script.

And if the directors intention is simply a ;love story he should have done away with the naxalite theme

 As i always believed the purest of human emotion is revenge. Revenge has no language. Revenge is a attitude undefined.Its revenge that motivates human beings to the extreme decisions. Revenge defines a mans courage amidst impossibility.

such revenge saga with a blend of unapologetic humour and impeccable detail is carved by Anurag Kashyap. watch it for a pure cinematic joy.

Stuck in traffic because of a local festival, i was filled with such a rage that i wanted to jump out of the auto and beat every one back and blue who are dancing to a vulgar tune before the local deity. Your rage expands further when the  auto driver who drives you demands more for the delay for which your are not the reason or the cause. Your rage multiplies after reaching home as you realize there's power cut owing to severe power usage by the festival organizers. Your rage raises to exponential proportions as you find out the youth drinking celebrating and dancing as if they are the new kings of India..Your rage  reaches  a saturation when the vegetable vendor informs you that a kilo of lady fingers is Rs 80. Your rage evaporates as you find out you cannot do anything.Such rage is/was a common feature among the conscious citizens of this country.We shelve our feelings...opinions...attitude...character......honesty...for one simple thing....TO LIVE.

SHANGHAI steps in to fill a vacuum which is slowly growing beyond measure. A vacuum where no one never hears or sees. Dibakar Benarjees gushes us   into known territories introduces known faces and reveals  known intentions showing us how impotent we are in a world filled with venomous designs to gain ...you know what. Nothing on the celluloid he shows us is a new thing for us.Nothing new is there as you know this from the day you knew you are an indian. The way the director brought the entire thing before us makes us feel how worst and stupid our lives are. It knocks out our cleverly put innocence cloaks around us with ruthless detailing and clever metaphors. TAKE A BOW DIBAKAR BENARJEE 

PLOT:

An imaginary town Bharat Nagar is the place where the drama unfolds. A chief minister of a coalition govt has a pet project IBP coming up in the town. The coalition partner is one among the beneficiaries. The poor who are losing their houses are against the project and their voice is strongly made audible by one doctor Ahmedi. The entire party workers are in a threatening mode against the poor and the doctor. The doctor has a loyal and intimate student who adores him. He has a beautiful and a selfish wife.  A honest bureaucrat is in charge of the project who is chief ministers pet to complete the project as per schedule and the rewards are a posting at Stockholm on behalf India. In midst of this we have a local journalist whose another vocation is making porn. We have a ambitious principal secretary, a head strong cop , a fearing servant maid and lots of others with different personalities. The town gears up for the inauguration of the project. The chief minister and bollywood stars land for the opening. The doctor lands up to protest. Celebrations throughout the town. With a ambition of converting Bharatnagar into Shanghai the govt uses every devious measure to stem any opposition. A truck rams and kills the doctor. The govt appoints a inquiry commission  and appoints the Honest bureaucrat as the head and advise him to lap it up quickly. What happens latter is the crux of the movie.      

With a great detailing and an absolute gem of a presentation the director entwines you into the proceedings. The helplessness of the characters is shown in number of ways. The chains which lock us whenever  we dare   are shown in a impeccable manner. What enthuse the poor and why the poor elect corrupt leaders is a undercurrent theme in this political drama. It tells us how slippery are the ground where our ideals try to find a sustenance. In fact the working of Indian bureaucracy is well researched and filmed.

The girl with the ball in the inquiry hall, the nurse who advise to fight out on the streets, the street smart ruffian   who wants to know the english word for "mutton", the cop with a state backing, the principal secretary with his own agenda  and many more characters make you think. This directors ability to leave spaces here and there for your own interpretation is a masterstroke and this movie also leaves spaces.....to analyse ...to understand...... you feel uncomfortable as this time you know what lies there.   

The characters are well played that you never see the actor only character. Emraan Hashmi , Abhay Deol and Kalki have played their roles with remarkable ease that your root for these people to win. Prosenjit who played Dr Ahmedi performed in a outstanding manner. Every one played their characters to the book. Its Farooq Sheikh as principal secretary takes the highest honours.

All the technical departements elevated the movie to a higher level. The music is a character in the movie.Whenever there is a pause it took over.

I watched this movie with only twenty people nearly. As the movie ended no one rose from their seats. There  is a deadly silence in the theatre. The attendent at the exit door looked at all puzzlingly. He will never understand what happened in his life time. The entire audience were shocked with the ending. I leave the ending for you to watch. 

Some one dared to bring out how  cheap our living has become. Some one finally blew the lid of our hypocritical lives. It is a prayer call. Your god is on sale. Move fast. Your son of age five is mouthing foul words. Run. Your watchman may lock the door as it is becoming dark and he is the incharge of the entire apartment. Sprint. you are no more controlling yourself.

MAYAKKAM ENNA means why this destruction of mind. It may also mean why this intoxication.  It also means a confusion in nature. Frenzy , perplexity as well as dizziness fit the meaning. THe title aptly fits the movie.

A pregnant wife wakes up from sleep to find her husband breaking down furniture and different things in a rage. She tries to stop him. He pushes her. She falls down which results in abortion. The husband turns back to find blood spreading and his wife in pain. She faintly murmurs "doctor" .The husbands friends  come to rescue and escort her to hospital. The husband shocked, confused,, intoxicated... remains alone in the room for days. A few days later he wakes up to  a noise of cleaning the floor. He sees his wife cleaning the blood stains of abortion. What follows defines this movie and shocks the viewer. The acting is top notch and the director should be commended and in  fact honoured for presenting emotions in such a blend of shock , hatred and sympathy.

what a movie. 

I don't know Tamil. yet this movie proved language is no barrier to understand a mans effort to present human emotions. Mayakkam enna is a portrayal of friendship, betrayal, love and saving love. I am able to understand the core of the movie. I am in one way unlucky not to learn tamil. For definitely i missed humour quotient as well as the strength of the dialogue. I understood the movie by its visuals , characters and emotions. Yet it touched my heart. 

The background score and the music are really awesome. The photography ..what can i say..its the visual mastery of this film that makes you glued. 

Dhanush and Richa performed as per the the demands of the role. The friends roles are also well made and the actors performed very neatly. 

Director selvaraghavan has come up with a movie that takes him and places him among the ranks of the greats. In the future this movie will be remembered for ---its content---its performances--its courage to present human emotions honestly......its soul stirring music...its photography.

HERE COMES THE KING....GABBAR SINGH.....BUT ...

              A LOCAL THEATRE CELBRATES GABBAR SINGH 

In one of the most entertaining scenes of the movie GABBAR SINGH a road side ruffian imitates pawan kalyan's mannerisms before the protagonist. The entire theatre went into splits. Its these kind of scenes which come in between the movie makes you laugh.  These cleverly inserted comic scoops, skits and one liners are the main strength of this movie.

Though slated to be  a remake of Dabaang, Gabbar Singh differs from the original on many counts. While the original itself carries on the strengths of protagonist's pranks, Gabbar singh completely throws the  story into dustbin and completely relies on the whims and fancies  of the protagonist. As all critics pointed out it was pawan kalyan all the way.

His mark dialogues, his fancy dances and the so called power in his presentation definitely elevated the movie at certain points. The music is  a huge asset. to the movie. And the photography adds to the bright prospects   of the movie. The dialogue written by the director himself is clever and very much planned to elevate the star power. 

My student Teja ghatty confirmed its a huge hit. Lot of my students are very jubilant after the hit talk. In fact there is a lot of  happiness on every one's face to see their hero score a super hit after a long hiatus. Even i felt happy. One hero who made the telugu cinema evolve a fresh look is pawn kalyan. After siva it is toliprema that defined telugu cinemas yet another dimension .Its great to see a hero whose popularity soar after every flop.

And the joy factor ends there. 

The movie is a hit and i wondered where we are heading. When movie makers in other states are coming with path breaking movies we are still making movies with superficial themes and idiotic presentations. If the objective of the movie is to define a hero and his own brand then why waste time. Its better for  each hero to  advertise them selves before TV soaps like advertisements that pop up every second. WHAT AN IDEA SIR JI! Yes we will be saved from 2.5 hour rubbishes like dammu, rachha and now (sorry folks ) ..Gabbar Singh...

Day before yesterday my son and daughter watched sankarbharanam with awe. They watched lava kusa  with a lot of interest. In fact they drew comparisons between ram rajyam and lava kusa. They simply watched Gabbar Singh in a regular manner. Nothing was carried home. Nothing there to rejoice by remembering. Nothing there to feel to watch it for another time. 

Ranbir kapoor is a self made destruction in Rockstar whom the entire country adored. Dhanush is a faulty lover in Mayakkam Enna whom the entire tamil audience loved. Lot of good things are happening in bengali and malayalam cinema. Kannada cinema is trying a new line. Marathi cinema is knocking the door of world cinema with movies like Shwaas and Harishchandrachi Factory . Except for a rare prasthanam and gamyam what we can boast for? Even BAND BAJAA BARAAT was made in a appealing way. 

Tell me one telugu movie which made you feel these days where you identified your self with the protagonist. Good movies are losing to the hero (KHALEJA). Good movies are losing to market based mechanisms(vedam). Good movies are not publicised(devasthanam) Good movies fail to deliver because of fans(panjaa).

Dear pawan kalyan

this is a half baked review. Never knew how to write praising a badly made movie  with well characterised hero.  
I still remember a young man escorting his lady love who was unaware of his feelings to the airport. The innocence made every eye filled with tears that day. Today the same young man dons police uniform and makes goons to play an"Antaakshari" before him. Chances of remembering  this police man after one month are very remote.

rachaa....to much garbage

so much said about this movie. i went to a rajsthan jaipur shop to fetch samosas few lay chip packets and two 500 ml Pepsi bottles for my family who were with me to watch this movie. my brothers daughter  snigdha  was singing the title song.The hall is full. lots of known faces. varied expressions. the boys shouting. the girls watching them admiringly. the proceedings began.the lights went off. 

when i returned to my senses iam at the hall gate with my family searching for our auto. 

i am unable to understand the surroundings for a while.  it took time , a dose of Atenol25(my hypertension  tablet) and a pep talk with my friend kamesh to get back to normal self. 

and today when i sat down to write this review i tried to remember  the content and its execution the symptoms are back.    so guys i don't want to disturb my mental state remembering this torture.

you always have a choice to live normally.

This movie knowingly in all its consciousness depicts women in the most worst way ever. That too Young girls who go to colleges were presented as those who do anything for money and boys as who lose money for the sake of true love.

These kind of movies should be sternly banned and serious action should be taken against such people. But the reverse is happening and no girl seem to understand the harm done to them.

  

Ram Gopal varma was very generous in praising this movie. So were the whole media including the likes of The Hindu.I don't know by what standards the movie was praised to that extent.

This movie emerges champion for all those who want to make films to vent their darker and pseudo views on the relations between girls and boys. This movie presents an opportunity to relish cheap and dirty side of the human soul. This movie presents the harmful and side  effects of technology if it is put in the hands of directors of this kind(yep... great technology in this movie(i don't find any) ..that is what RGV is seriously praising this movie).

watched this movie amidst medico's  engineers,professors , families and a lot of youngsters. The dialogues in this movie will put a father to such shame he will regret his decision of taking his family to this film for the rest of his life. Any girl will suffer like hell seeing this movie for college girls are presented as if they are characterless and cheap. I was very uncomfortable to see lot of medical and engineering students enjoying this movie with a cheap and vulgar joy. Joy of such vicious kind made me sick like anything. 

Nothing to talk about the credentials of the movie. It is very regressive repressive and has a very mean attitude towards girls. It comes up with a very dirty view on today's colleges as if they are meeting grounds for boys and girls. The very thought of girls would do anything for money is horrendous. This movie tries to impress college going boys that by giving money to  girls they can extract anything.There are scenes where boys extract money from girls. They are very limited and they too are very offensive. 

I have a lot of students who are from very good families and are very much oriented towards their careers.I know a lot of girls who are hardworking and who achieved great feats through their intelligence. I have a daughter.What impact this film showcases if she watches this on any stupid tv channel. These kind of films will  hurt those who are in the college like anything.

This film presents  today's colleges as negotiation grounds. Negotiations to trap girls. And almost all girls are ready to do anything for money. FOR THIS ONE SINGLE DIRTY PORTRAYAL THE DIRECTOR SHOULD BE PUT BEHIND BARS FOR VIOLATING THE VERY FUNDAMENTAL  DUTY OF THIS COUNTRY...

In a high voltage action scene that follows the Indian jumps with the Pakistani on to the ground from a high floor and after landing...he asks her " kya tum mujse shaadi karoge"

Beyond doubt i am surprised, amused, thrilled and entertained by agent vinod. 

Surprised because this agent sans beautiful locales, beautiful ladies and gadgets. He is simply a spy. He is very much real. I have never seen one. This one seemed a bit real.There are no duets and the track of the spy and his female rival is very refreshing and presented in a brilliant way.  

Amused because this spy had witty lines in his kitty, uses them cleverly and dances when situation needs. Amused because despite gadgets he pulls miracles that are a part of Indian cinema.

Thrilled because the man dared to bring out a new villain and dared to project the disastrous tendencies of Capitalism. Thrilled because the villain is killed in a most planned way. 

Entertained because there are surprises..there are good laughs...there are poetic moments..there are witty lines.

A film without flaws is  a miracle. This film  has such flaws in plenty of numbers. Most of them were passable as cinematic liberties.Agent vinod   ushers in a new genre of spy thrillers. Agent vinod is not a James bond or a Jason bourne. Agent vinod comes up  with a lethal problem and that's where i felt  this movie   a worth watch despite its slow and pain staking first half.

Another great thing about this movie is its detailing. It never hurries.  It tries to link broken fragments and makes  us travel with the spy. In particular the second half races to a "honourable" conclusion.

The plot line is very simple. We come to know about miniature nuclear bombs that can be packed into suit cases. Some one invest huge sum and purchases the bomb which can be activated through a device in form of a book. One agent finds out this deal and is killed while he is informing this to  the RAW. Agent vinod is given the duty to unravel the conspiracy. The deal of the bomb takes an international route and the suspicion of a terrorist outfit in this proceedings grows with the time. The story reaches New Delhi ion its finality and when the tale is uncovered the reality  comes  out with a bang. 

The BGM is in tune with the theme of the movie. The photography and editing are good. The sound seemed to be dull at times (perhaps the theatre fault). The dialogues are sharp and witty. The screen play indeed involved unnecessary jerks art times letting an iota of boredom spread throughout. 

Years back i watched Johhny Gaddar and i very much knew Sri Ram Raghavan is going to be one of the good directors in India. His first film Ek hasina Thi was a very good film. Agent vinod no way comes near these two films. They are different in genre and execution. This is a new premise and a new mode of execution. Iam sure he will not receive any kind of critical acclaim  for  this  movie. Arey yaar when you accuse capitalists how can you find support for your well crafted product?  Though the film is different from his previous ventures, he presented the movie very stylishly and take my word its very detailed. No hurry. Its not the "bond"ish film you are expecting. Its an Indian answer  to the spy thrillers of west. Hope Agent  Vinod  comes up with more in  the future

Saif should be lauded for producing this film. He should be lauded for not being tempted to fill this spy thriller with cheap tricks like item songs and duets. He should be in fact lauded for saying those witty lines in a cool manner. He is so believable as a spy and made his intentions clear ( about his looks) in the very first scene of the movie. The rest of the cast is okay. 

In one of the thrilling poetic (what ever)  scenes saif and kareena are involved in a shoot out at a hotel. The back ground music being a sweet and killers in every corner,  both of them move in a zig zag way to attack and kill the killers. It is really spectacularly  presented and awesome to watch. Such  simple care and a little pace should have made Agent Vinod a Classic. 

If you think  terrorism is the ultimate evil in this world to be tackled by every one you are wrong. This movie  tries to make a point in a thriller mode. 

If you have already formed a view point basing on the great reviews appearing  through out i am helpless.

Yesterday my conversation with my friend raja gopal made me write this. He asked me can any one repeat a "Gamyam" kind of movie? 

Iam not here to discuss the classic that made us laugh weep and enlightened. One of the legacies of gamyam is its pairing. A less known Sharwanand paired up with upcoming Naresh. The chemistry between both illuminated the silver screen like never before. Such was the intensity of the film it rekindled friendships in a new way. 

When my friend brought back the memories of the past i just  noticed the pair is back in a new movie. Their infectious smiles lured me back to the theatre. And let me warn you..Erase Gamyam  from your memory before you watch this.

Two guys one a thief and another a depressed young guy fall for a young psychiatrist. A local ruffian also joins the race for the girl after seeing her at a street corner. What happens next is every body's guess.

Nothing great about the technical department. Even the dialogues fail  to inspire.   There are few good laughs. The doctor fashions walks in the hospital. 

Its Naresh and Sharwanand who make the proceedings lively. The cat and mouse game between is not properly etched but still they make up  for the loop holes in the meandering script. 

My desire to watch the Gamyam pair pulled me to the theatre. If you too are in the same league. Go. You will not be disappointed. It has some funny moments.

One Last Time

Its vikranth's wish to write a review on this. Perhaps for  the first time on this blog we are posting a link   of the entire  movie.Its a conflict between living  your life your way or living your life in the prescribed way. Finally the enlightened  soul walks the road less taken. This movie also presents the stress factor the youngsters take in to exist in the present competitive world. 

 The world is changing rapidly and rapid changes exhaust human resource rapidly. Exhaustion earns money and comforts. But the one who gets exhausted knows the price he is paying ...living for the world and living by a fear if he tries to escape he may miss the comfort zone. There is always a thing called balancing act. And to achieve that we compromise. But the you in you always tries to come out. But will you let him out? Its a  million dollar question.

This kid tried a very good line. It definitely can appeal to a lot of youngsters. But presentation seems to be a bit dragging. Now the realization  point is not strong. The strength of this entire short film lies in the realization of the protagonist. The thing which changes you should be hard hitting. So simply a conversation and memories can never change a person immediately. 

Definitely it has an interesting premise. One problem i found immediately is the language. If it is shot in regional language ( supposedly Telugu ) then it would have appealed more. The English  conversation between the desi  people hampered the scenario.It could have been authentic if it is shot in a natural location. Nature represents change. And the director could have found a  lot of energy to drive his point home.

Good luck to the director for his future.

In this 8 min film the protagonist awakens all of a sudden in a confusion to decide which way to go.  He chose his way. But it seemed he chose his way to end the movie .

Kahani: Jeffrey Archer meets a poetic kolkata

Yes.

Its like Archer's thriller with twists turns and surprises till the end.At the same times it brings the  city in full energy and rhythm. It showcases kolkata in its poetic beauty and dark prose. We meet the Howrah bridge in lights expressing  feelings of  love in a sweet tone. We come across frail faces, vendors selling tea to puri, busy roads, faces with tension and anguish and  painter and sculptors brushing the designs of goddess Durga. In midst of all this contract killers, government agents, software engineers run brag and sweat to hide and expose a dark secret. And the protagonist comes with different shades to find her lost husband in  the city of furious creative energy.

With nearly  two  hours running time Kahaani is a thriller to core and poetic in presentation. The film blends the city,  characters and the story in exact proportions. The story is well researched  and well presented.The end is not predictable and we glue to our seats to witness a thrilling climax in the frenzy of dusserah celebrations.The emotions of love-- anger-- distrust--helplessness-patriotism-materialism flow undercurrent yet make their presence in a thumping manner.And you cannot escape the spell cast effectively by the director, music director ,editor, director of photography and the actors.

The director Sujoy Ghosh is the real hero of this thriller. He never compromised the film for cheap thrills. And he with his team captured kolkata  in a way that leaves you spell bound. It a lesson to many new comers on how to blend in the scene of the movie with the surroundings.  So many times i heard the directors says "realistic". Its here i found the exact meaning.Like Yeh saali Zindagi this movie depends on the  story and it clicks in a big way.Simple details to complex situations are handled in a delightful  manner and its the strength of the movie. Let it be the boy working in the guest house or the boy working in Tea stall or the LIC agent ...every character is given a poetic and dark touch. 

The music director and Director of photography complimented each other in a great way.The entire premise Kolkata is elevated in sound and light in a never before way. The screenplay is tight. ANd flaws they do exist but very minor. 

Vidyabalan comes up with a commendable performance. The character is a summation of different strokes of life. And she plays the role in all its glory. I think you cannot imagine any other in this complex role of hers. And this does not take away the credit of other actors . Every one played their roles to perfection.

Go for this movie. You will be a part of the story.

As the movie ended the audience waited till the titles rolled . It happened with yeh saali Zindagi. It happened with prasthanam. It happened with Kahhani.    

In the movie The LIC agent is introduced as lazy and dull guy. But in the later scene we come to know his cruel intentions.And in the same movie Vidya balan tries to take the radio of  the kid in the guest house but the kid hides it. But before climax  seeing vidya balan in tears he hands the radio to her.   

Never before cruelty and affection shared the screen in the same honours.
