Beware all superstars.....The Challenger Rises

Nothing  great about pularangadu. But there s a great deal about the protagonist. Comedy actors turning into heroes is not new to us. However the scope of such heroes is very limited and hence the success rate is also thin. Many like Ali, Brahmanandam after experimenting relocated themselves to their respective genres. Rajendra prasad and Allari Naresh are very different form of heroes and they have their respective markets. But it is to be agreed they are never a challenge to the top stars. Their macho image was/is never built. For the first time a challenge seems imminent to all the superstars in the tollywood. And take my word this rising star has the much needed quality of the star......the mass appeal.

The dance moves the acting and the fights are done by sunil in a way which puts the great stars of tollywood in dismay. Such degree of display will put any doubts about sunil's  future as hero in the waste basket. What more the audience shouted whistled and enjoyed this man's every move. The dances are awesome. Ram charan's allu's  NTR's ......Beware....you are no match to him. The common man's look also aids sunil as the common folk identify them easily with him. This  quotient helps sunil to look like us distinguishing him from   the breed who grew in their fathers shadows. This common man  quotient helped chiranjeevi and rajnikanth a great deal. Thats it.He brings back the memories of chiranjeevi in the cinema hall while he dances which ram charan never did.

Sunil is now no more  a comedian. His pularangadu is a blockbuster. And he carried it on his shoulders. In fact Shivaji (of Rajnikanth)  and Indra(of Chiranjeevi) were not great movies either. They went on because of the protagonist. Am i bluffing by comparing rajni and chiranjeevi with this man? Who saw tomorrow? For now Mahesh babu and Pawn kalyan has a contender....for the top slot. And this contender worked hard to reach this position.

It is  always a good feeling to watch one climb an uphill on his own sweating and tiring. They often inspire people to do  things which seem impossible. They motivate us. Long years back two good friends one a teacher and other trying his luck as a dancer in tollywood. The dancer considered the teacher friend (who is very famous as a teacher in bhimavaram) the most influential person  and believed he can make a name in tollywood. Both of them struggled like anything. The teacher wrote ghost scripts for popular writers.   The dancer continued in various positions like controlling crowds etc.,The Teacher wrote scripts which were delayed and rejected. They worked  very hard and survived bad times. In a field where entry is restricted for sons of stars and affluent NRI's the road seemed tough. But the friends survived and made a big name for them.
The Teacher is Trivkram Srinivas
The dancer is Sunil

love failure......passes with distinction

In this film, Parvati(amalapaul)   while shopping with her lover Arun( siddarth), meets her school mate who is a malayali. The friend asks Arun do you  know Malayalam for which Arun says no. Immediately the friend starts conversing with Parvathi in  Malayalam to  the shock of Arun. The entire theatre went into splits. Such scenes and a lot make the movie "Love Failure"  an endearing and joyful ride.

Go for this flick.

This decade of love stories made me that sick that i thought will we ever see a neat romantic film that makes you feel life is beautiful.Gamyam movie  has its romantic moments but its different as it focuses more on individual reformation. So a love story nothing but love in a dignified mature and devoid of regular cliches is never in in offering in this particular decade.

Love Failure comes like a smooth breeze carrying the mystique of love. It offers nothing at the same time it brings you freshness of relations, complications of student-hood, innocence and above all elements that lead you to understand life. There is nothing new in  the story. There is everything in the way it is told. There is a interesting thing  in this movie.....it never gets  overboard which is a common feature of love stories made in recent years.

Playing the role of narrator and the protagonist siddarth infuses energy and curiosity factor into the film. His role definitely connects to most of the college going students in a positive way. Even though he produced the film the honours are distributed equally among all the actors in the movie.

Amala paul fits the role of college going girl credibly. Her conflict with the protagonist is genuine and comes as a relief.

The track of  suresh and surekhavani is elegant. In fact the realization in the main characters never comes with long speeches. They simply learn it from  their own families and that is done so well.

I hated music director thaman's music like anything till now. But here he shows his mastery. All the songs are pleasing and hear worthy. It all proves how badly our Telugu directors are mishandling him.

This is a film without tension, drama and youthful over rush. Go into the theater and you will come out with a pleasant smile. Its a love story for a full family. Its a love  story which is very different from other love stories because it is very normal. It is a love story without duets. Its a love story which we can easily connect with.

Director Balaji Mohan is the star of this movie. He never deviated from the point he wanted to express. He used every character  effectively. Full credit to him for making a lovely film. Its a rare  kind of a movie where you never feel "the cinema feel" and its where this movie differs from the rest. We are waiting for more Director sir.....I predicted long back that this man is going to strike gold after seeing a short film which inspired this movie.

In the movie the girl expresses her dissatisfaction to the boy  for never sharing his thoughts to which the boy declares he is thinking nothing. Then the scene follows showing how the girl thinks different things in a second and how the boy simple drinks his juice without  thinking anything. To tell he is not thinking the director uses a stunning technique which will make you smile and you will find out you are not smiling by any force and its a genuine body reaction that has come from your heart. . Such smiles every where in this failure.Go now to realize still some one makes us smile from heart.

PREACHY CINEMA: A CURSE

Its a cold afternoon. Vizag's weather is revealing its newer intentions. With nothing much to do, this afternoon i walked towards the theatre. Cinema has been a passion for years now. Some admire this passion. Others think i am rather spoiling my good time. What ever over the years its Cinema  that relaxed me and made my cruel days look a bit better.

As  i  walked towards the cinema hall i met one of my old parents( i run a school). He is returning from the matinee show of snehitudu. He was so influenced by the movie that he regretted the fact that he never knew what his children wanted to be. He praised me like anything for caring what my students really wanted to be. The movie's impact seemed to be very much on him. As he walked off i remembered how well he controlled his wayward son and how well the son settled in life.Had the parent listened to what his  son  wanted to be the son would have landed in some kind of a chaos. At that time  the son was confused, surrounded by bad friends and irregular habits. The parents gods are kind to him for the movie released after his sons settlement.

Now here  arises a question .Whats wrong with preachy cinema? Bommarilu, three idiots and a lot such preach stuff that immediately attracts  the teens and twenties. Lots of things which they have foregone for sake of parents make them identify themselves with the protagonist.I remember a parent changing his attitude towards his children after Bommarillu.   The kids enjoyed their fathers sudden change and  walked on the roads of career destruction soon.

These movies are good as long as they entertain. Recently my student siva shankar observed that cinemas influence can never extend beyond thoughts. I beg to differ. The Omnipotent  influence of cinema is so big that we fail  to recognise the cinematic tendencies in the real world.

Post nuvve kavali there is a sea change in the relations of college going girls and boys. The movie erased forever thin lines of control that existed. Even the parents were forced to accept these changes. Post bommarilu it became a common part of the families to discuss the parents intervention in children lives. Post happy days  every  college assumed the colours of the film.

As a movie bommarilu  may be entertaining. But its applications in reality are not that entertaining. The same applies to 3 idiots or its remakes.  They  were very entertaining. But they are not realistic. AAs my friend kamesh points out the son in the movie never looks a better son where as the father despite his fancies wants a better son. The son boozes flirts cons...all these vices are cleverly  covered under parents intervention.

Coming to three idiots even a kid knows our system is broke. Even then its yielding results. If a field is encouraging and open chances exist who will oppose. Years back entry of girls into  modelling and cinema is not a good career option. But today it is not the case. I mean to say  following your heart is okay. But what are your chances of survival ? where in you will get training and where are the needed institutions? Atleast santiago in the book Alchemist was able to read the omens. And santiago's world is different.  Here santiago's treasures rest in dreams and if santiago tries to realize the dreams he will realize that how impossible it is. Can you ever dream a career of your own with this system which only enriches your by hearting capacity? Then why advocate attitude career of your choice etrc., only to lure those who think   they are failures because of their parents and system. Whats the option. I dont know what kind of school is being run by Aamir there in the finale of three idiots. .Only a glimpse is not enough. by portraying a defect in a entertaining way is welcome. But saying it is phenomenal is a curse.

My fellow school correspondent says he learnt a lot from  the movie and wants to allow his kids what ever  they want to do.The son declared he wanted to be a hair dresser. The father is busy inquiring how can he accomplish this task. Amused and confused i asked the kid how come you developed this desire? He replied " my friend said its the only thing which will never be an unemployed sector. I have seen my hair dressers shop busy always" Surprised i asked him " dont you cut"he simply replied when iam investing why should I? Till the movie 3 idiots the kid was planning a career on different lines. Post three idiots  his father pestered him   questions " what you want to be"  listen to your heart ......

Let me give examples of mmovies which are far better than this stuff.

Sudigundalu a black and white movie starring nageswara rao explored the problems of youngsters in a startling way.

Even maro  prapancham starring Nageswara rao again tried to tell the evils of system

Taare zammen par focused on dyslexia and tried to bring out the best staying in  the system.

Stanley ka dabba explored the child's world of food. No solutions. No above the roof mania. In fact attitude watch this movie to  know how attitude develops  in a kid.  Its one of the best movies i have seen.

But these are exceptions.

preachy stuff will definitely  cost India more in the future where parenting is highly elastic.
